Join the Circle - Singing for Your LifeJoin SoVoSó onstage at Yoshi's December 5!!!We had such an amazing time being the backup choir with SoVoSó at Yoshi's last year, we've decided to do it again! Rehearsals start September 5 and continue on the dates listed below. Please note, anyone is welcome to come to these meetings, but in order to participate at Yoshi's we'll need folks to sign up and commit to the rehearsal schedule. Sign ups will take place at our meetings on Sept 5 and Oct 3. Please plan to be here then!Please note the following Special Rehearsal dates: Sept 5, Oct 3, Oct 31, Nov 7, Nov 28, Plus two shows 8pm & 10pm at Yoshi's December 5. In these special sessions, we'll work on creating choral parts for several tunes from SoVoSó's repertoire, and we hope even to be able to do some recording on Oct 31. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month from 7-9pm at the First Congregational Church, 2501 Harrison St., Oakland.Suggested Donation is $10, no one turned away for lack of funds. Work-Study also available – we welcome publicity and production volunteers! Circlesinging is a vocal improvisation technique in which a circle of singers takes melodic and rhythmic cues (parts) from a skilled leader, together creating songs unique to the moment. As the leader cues out old parts and introduces new ones, the song continues and changes without stopping, at times supporting individual solos, always grounded in attentive listening. Participants are welcome at any level of singing experience. Space is limited - advance registration for the workshops is recommended. Singing For Your Life!Sunday, December 30, 2007, Noon – MidnightThe year's circle singing culminates in our annual 12-hour Circlesong Ritual, at First Congregational Church, 2501 Harrison Street (at 27th), Oakland.Join us in the 12-hour Circlesong, as we close 2007 with much to remember, and much to look forward to! Sing the Old Year out with us - or just relax and listen to the continuous, spontaneous song of closure and renewal. Sing & meditate, gather & reflect, become inspired by the spirit of peace in music and transformation. Singers from all over the Bay Area and beyond participate in this revived tradition! Originated by Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra, this popular ritual was held at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral until 1999. In 2002, Arts First Oakland brought Singing For Your Life to Oakland, where it has taken root as a 12-hour event with an East Bay flavor. Plan to join us!
